Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ as we relish “our month” of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, which bears both our roots and our reason. This year, marking our 15th anniversary of God’s invitation to us (beginning with 7 groups of 7 intercessors praying for 7 pastors in 7 parishes), gives cause to express deep gratitude for the persistent guidance of the Sacred Heart in the Apostolate. Love Himself is our companion. His generous Love moves us to generously love in return. St Margaret-Mary Alacoque reminds, “Choose the divine Heart for your sacred oratory…” St John Henry Newman adds, “Cor as cor loquitur” (Heart speaks to heart).

While all of June honors the Sacred Heart, the Church readily acknowledges more: the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Chaste Heart of St Joseph. The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is always celebrated 19 days after Pentecost, thus a movable feast, but always on Friday. The following day, the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is observed. The Feast of the Chaste Heart of St Joseph follows on the first Wednesday after the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart. My, my, my – how beautifully the three are closely allied in prayer and celebration at the very heart of this month. We recognize a hierarchy within the Three Hearts: Jesus, Mary, Joseph. Yet, when we honor one, we honor the others. The Holy Family appeared in the October 1917 apparition in Fatima, yet remains wholly present to us today. They are united in love, humility and the mission to bring God’s salvific grace into the world. Their intentions are inseparable. What an unwavering example for every domestic, nuclear family, as well as the Church family at large. As Seven Sisters, cultivating an understanding and perhaps even a home/personal consecration to the Three Hearts, helps us imitate the virtues therein, and may bring fresh direction to our prayers for the priests for whom we pray.

No matter when a Seven Sisters group begins (and groups have started on nearly every day of the year), the renewal/recommitment of any group is to strive to link as close as possible to the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, the universal, international time of renewal. This strengthens our unity and honors the influence of the Sacred Heart to our foundation. In 2002 Pope St John Paul II designated the Solemnity to also be the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests – to encourage priests to reflect on their vocation and to invite the faithful to pray for their holiness. (This is not to be mistaken as the World Day of Prayer, the first Friday of March, an ecumenical day of prayer.) How fitting is this papal designation toward our mission of prayers for sanctity! God’s plan spares no detail! In the Entrance Antiphon on the Solemnity, we pray: The designs of His Heart are from age to age, to rescue their souls from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

The Triple Hearts have long been present in our Apostolate life. Aside from our divinely-appointed bond with the Sacred Heart, every Seven Sister Hour includes a plea for a deeper devotion of the priest/bishop to the heart of Mary. Through the earliest Fasting Brothers group (2018), St Joseph was prayerfully chosen as the special patron. How perfectly suitable, as priests consistently look to the Chaste Heart of St Joseph as model and mentor for growing in the disciplines of self-mastery and self-gift. Another connection for us fell in the Year of St Joseph (8 Dec 2020 to 8 Dec 2021 – note these Marian dates!), when Apostolate members were asked to offer daily the Act of Confidence beseeching more groups for more priests: Heart of Jesus, I adore Thee. Heart of Mary, I implore thee. Heart of Joseph, meek and just… In these three Hearts I place my trust.

The following words were spoken by Our Lord to St Margaret-Mary Alacoque on Friday, 21 June 1675, (that year, within the Octave of Corpus Christi) as she received Holy Communion from the hands of her mentor, St Claude de la Colombière: “My pure love unites forever these three hearts.” They had just knelt together before the Blessed Sacrament and dedicated themselves to serve the Sacred Heart. Each week our Holy Hours serve the Sacred Heart of Jesus and so too, by the design of God, the Hearts of Mary and St Joseph. Entrusting ourselves and those for whom we pray to the Three Hearts is not only an act of confidence, but a sure-footed pathway to deeper love, humility and trust. In a word: holiness. May the thoughts, words and every sigh of our prayers eternally have effect on the priests and bishops for whom we commit our love and time. In these three Hearts we place our trust…

MATTERS of the HEART:

“Praying is one of the most important things to do for a loved one, especially those serving around the altar, those consecrated to God, and those who said yes to the call of Christ. United we move and stand, divided we fall. I pray for God’s strength and mercy to carry out this divine spiritual exercise peacefully.” (Sr Stella, Nigeria, nun)

“With delighted approval by the garden club leader, our Seven Sister’s group is gifting the Seven Sisters climbing rose in honor of our priest who approved of the start of this ministry and who is now leaving. The parish garden club has a Rectory garden project and states this rose is the perfect addition.” (Rebecca, Kansas)

“I can’t tell you all the blessings poured forth from this Apostolate! Something I am eternally grateful for is that I have made the most wonderful friends – my dear sisters! We are truly a family!” (Shannon, Washington)

“I’m a Catholic wife, mom of ten, and new Grandma. Our family has moved a bit. I have tried to get involved in each Parish. I am filled with appreciation for all priests sacrifice to bring us to Christ, and Christ to us. This past Fall my son was attending classes and I decided to start going into church and praying while waiting. One evening after briefly speaking to the priest there, I felt a strong pull to spend the hour praying for him. It was a wonderful hour, and I decided that I would start doing that each week. About 3-4 weeks into this I was told about this Apostolate! The Holy Spirit has taken over since then in so many ways and here I am!” (Jacinta, Kentucky)

“I am looking forward to promoting this wonderful and much needed Apostolate.” (DeeDee, Michigan) “When on vacation, I noted no Seven Sisters group in Chincoteague VA. I had a booklet with me and prayed to the Holy Spirit to find the right woman to give it to. She found me and asked me and my husband to bring up the gifts! She was very interested. They are the only Catholic Church on the island, and quite a distance from any other Catholic Church and have a wonderful priest. I hope you hear from them.” (Julie, Indiana)

“I was a Seven Sister at my previous parish. I want our priest at our new parish to have this same grace. Mama Mary has asked us to pray for priests. May all priests be under her protective mantle.” (Sylvia, North Carolina)

Greetings and Blessed Eastertide to dearest Sisters in Christ in this holy season brimming with new life! Let us intend these gifts of full-to-overflowing graces to be offered as cups of cool water to those on our paths in this parched, weary world.  Oh, and we too thirst!  May we graciously accept those cups held out to us!

With the promise of abundant new life evident both in nature and in the Church, it seems fitting that the month of May has long been dedicated to Mary.  What opportune time to draw closer in friendship and love of her!  As Seven Sisters, our inclination to call upon Mary both in prayer and as guide carries wisdom.   We join the chorus over the arc of time that she is our life, our sweetness and our hope.   Giving attention to Mary always leads us to Jesus.  She follows Him in every way, and is thus rightly seen by the Church as the first and perfect disciple.  She accompanies us in our pursuits of His Will and Way.  As Seven Sisters we honor Mary under the title of Madonna of the Grapes, the Overseer of the Eucharistic Life.   Here she assists us to embrace the essence of the Eucharist, our source and summit.  Through our steady prayers for priests/bishops before our Eucharistic Lord we ourselves (super)naturally become disciples, dedicated followers, of this Eucharistic life.  We are fortified and in turn, led to desire to foster and affirm this life in others.  Our prayers likewise serve to strengthen our shepherds who are vital and indispensable for the Eucharistic life.  Bl Dina Belanger in her “Lend me Your Heart” prayer, conveys the voice and yearnings of Seven Sisters…

From your pure heart, Mary, peerless Virgin, I have come to draw the most perfect love,
To delight the Eucharistic Heart, Oh! Lend me your ardors, ever more.
In your blessed soul, O mystical oven, I have come to draw the love that adores,
To pay homage to the Eucharistic Heart, Virgin of love. Oh! Lend me your heart.
Our Lady, O seraphic canyon, I have come to draw the love that restores,
To console the Eucharistic Heart, O mother of love, Oh! Lend me your heart.
Alongside you, angelic Sovereign, I have come to draw the love that mirrors,
To imitate the Eucharistic Heart, O Queen of love, Oh! Lend me your heart!

Madonna of the Grapes holds the central spot in the trifecta of Marian paintings above, yet all of the images hearken to the themes of the Apostolate.  All of the paintings suggest a deep, foundational humility of Mary through a serene, reflective downward gaze.  Likewise, each painting depicts her hands in an intentional and expressive action, yet with great tenderness, poise and in an unhurried manner.  In each portrait, humility serves as the wellspring of action.  The Immaculate Heart of Mary image to the left is most often seen paired with the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and even dubbed the Twin Hearts by St John Eudes, who promoted the dual devotion.  The last wound that Jesus incurred was the spear thrust.  In reality, this wound was endured by Mary, not Jesus, since he was already dead.  A sword truly pierced her soul, as she was foretold (Luke 2:35), and a sword is quite often rendered pictorially piercing her Immaculate Heart.  Seven Sisters Apostolate is mystically linked to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as our foundation and meditation in its representation of the fullness of the Eucharistic life, the core of the Apostolate.  The pierced heart of Mary uniquely guides our prayers for priests that are suffering, and even when offered in the midst of our own personal sufferings.  St John Eudes shares this: “You must never separate what God has so perfectly united. Jesus and Mary are so intimately connected with each other that whoever sees Jesus looks at Mary; whoever loves Jesus, loves Mary; whoever has devotion for Jesus, has devotion for Mary.”  The painting on the right of the threesome is Sassoferrato’s well-recognized Virgin in Prayer. It portrays the prayerful posture and interior attitude of Seven Sisters while providing a visual icon to the Apostolate anchor verse, Isaiah, 30:15:  … in quietness and trust is your strength.  Mary consistently models for us the important discipline of prayer-infused pondering.  It is worth mentioning that the painting can also serve as a depiction of Mary receiving your daily wee Hail Marys!

The spirit of the Marian portraits is a proper invitation to all Seven Sisters as we now reunite at the brim of two special months:  May, our month of discernment to remain or depart from the weekly Holy Hour commitment(s); and June, our month of re-commitment to another year of prayer offerings.  Both are places of trust.  Let us each be attentive as to what and where our good God is guiding regarding the Apostolate.  Let us be open to generosity toward an additional or different group or another place of service (Elijah’s Helpers, Pro Pace, Quilt Project, subbing for Fasting Brothers, Anchoress or Coordinator position).  My prayers heartily join yours as you listen and act. When you gain that clear sense of the Lord’s direction, please inform your Anchoress or Coordinator, so all groups may seamlessly continue in uninterrupted prayerful support of our Brothers in Christ.

Shared before, now offered again, is a prayer from St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein).  May it prove fruitful and peace-provoking in your discernment, as you seek to follow Our Lord, as Mary, as a dedicated disciple after His own Heart.  “O my God, fill my soul with holy joy, courage and strength to serve You.  Enkindle Your love in me and then walk with me along the next stretch of road before me. I do not see very far ahead, but when I have arrived where the horizon now closes down, a new prospect will open before me, and I shall meet it with peace. Amen.”

United in prayer, fasting and mission…that our prayers may find the heart of every bishop and priest Eternal gratitude continues as you each offer a daily wee Hail Mary for me. One Ave Maria makes hell tremble” (St John Vianney). Pray that I will not ‘spoil the beautiful work that God has entrusted…’  (St Teresa of Calcutta).  Your emails, notes and calls always arrive to my heart door at just the right moment! Financial sacrifices are for 100% furtherance of the Apostolate. Your letters of testimony are beautiful and edifying! What glory is given to God through them! Be assured of my continued daily prayers for you at the altar.

MATTERS of the HEART:

“Our Blessed Mother asks us over and over to pray for the priests. God the Father told St Catherine of Sienna to hold Jesus’ chosen ones (priests) with deep reverence. I believe that my calling in life includes praying for priests.” (Veronica, New Mexico)

“Knowing the power of prayer combined with the times we live in, beginning this journey with a dedicated group of women committed in prayer for a son of the church is Heaven sent.  We are happy to join this ministry alongside the multitude of sisters throughout the world.” (Bonnie, Wisconsin)

I recently listened to a podcast with Dr. Dan Schneider who shared a story about a man who said he was a satanist and that his group spends 4 hours a day trying to cast spells on priests and the religious.  I value my priest and want to make sure he gets all the support he needs to continue his ministry.” (MaryAnn, Ohio)

We feel called to move beyond informal prayer and to make a disciplined, accountable commitment to pray for our priest. We seek the structure, guidance, and support of an apostolate that will help us faithfully persevere in this mission.” (Rosa, Texas)

“I was previously an Anchoress with the Apostolate. When a new priest joined our parish, I immediately felt called to become his Anchoress.  I deeply missed being part of the Seven Sisters group and missed praying. My faith and commitment to prayer grew significantly during my time with the group. I believe God is leading me to take up this role again. I am truly joyful to say YES! Glory to Jesus; honor to Mary!” (Sylvia, Arizona)
I feel that priests are in great need of prayer.” (Maria, Portugal)

“I am a member of The Confraternity of Christian Mothers.  When I mentioned at a meeting that I had read about a young priest in Italy that had committed suicide and how profoundly that had affected me, one of our members gave me a Seven Sisters brochure.  I knew at that very moment I was being called to start a Seven Sisters group.” (Mary, Ohio)

April 2026 Communiqué

April 2026 Communiqué

PDF of April Communique 2026

Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ as we have entered Passiontide, and now step-by-step continue toward Holy Week, Easter Sunday and Eastertide!  May we travel unhurried to aptly absorb the wealth of sacred Scripture, services, holy Masses and fellowship with Our Lord and those that He surrounds us with.   Please continue to offer your Holy Hours throughout.  During times when the Blessed Sacrament is not available, praying in your quieted Church or home is acceptable, but DO PRAY!  All priests/Bishops follow the Way of the Cross intensely and intimately and treasure our prayers.  Let us persevere alongside them!

A defining aspect of the weekly prayers of Seven Sisters is praying for the holiness of a priest/bishop, for his greater conformity to Christ.   Praying for sanctity might seem inaccessible, too lofty for our little prayers.  Perhaps the idea of beseeching authentic friendship (its essence, holiness) will bring fresh insight and perhaps even ease into our prayers for our brothers in Christ.  Friendship with God is the goal and delight of every soul created by Him.  Communion.  Scripture reminds and so does Pope Benedict XVI who was a consistent voice regarding friendship with Our Lord as the paramount path and goal of everyone.   Let us open wide our hearts for a generous dollop of some Vitamin B16 to fortify our prayers in this way!

In mid-October 2005, nascent in his Pontificate, Pope Benedict met with hundreds of First Communicants and their families.   From all that is held and swells in the immense mind and heart of this notable theologian, the Pontiff’s message was simple:  friendship.   He implored the children to cultivate a lifelong friendship with Jesus because He would guide them, help them make the right decisions in life, and help them become better people.  A few months later, at the first Chrism Mass as Pope (April 2006), he echoed the heart of this message to his brother priests.  He said, “the nucleus of the priesthood is to be a friend of Jesus.” He invited the priests present to “offer their hands to Christ and be guided by Him.”  He emphasized that “to be a friend of Jesus, to be a priest, means to be a man of prayer. We can only be friends of Jesus,” he continued, “in the communion of Christ.” He portrayed the priesthood as a movement back and forth in which God offers a gift to the priest, and in return, filled by this gift, he becomes more like Him. At its crux, there is a return to Trinitarian communion, from whence we all have come.

Natural, earthly friendships have varied foundations. Two people may hold mutual interests or endured common challenges that serve to bind or perhaps share age-old pleasant childhood experiences.  For Saint Thomas Aquinas, friendship in its purest form is based on just one thing: mutual charity – selfless love.  These relationships negate self-interests for the good of the other. Friendship with God is friendship with Love Himself.  The reception of His love, compelling us to, in turn, act in generous love, establishes a bond of holy friendship that transforms, unites and brings about perfection.  A cherished prayer of our Catholic faith is the Anima Christi, which beautifully affirms this efficacious friendship with Christ that leads to holiness, becoming like Him.  What a perfectly fitting prayer to offer our brother priests who hold as “their nucleus …to be a friend of Jesus.”

Anima Christi (Masculine pronouns inserted)

Soul of Christ, sanctify ______.  Body of Christ, save him.  Blood of Christ, inebriate him.
Water from the side of Christ, wash him.  Passion of Christ, strengthen him. O good Jesus, hear him.
Within your wounds, hide him.  Let _____ never be separated from you.

From the malignant enemy, defend him.  In the hour of his death, call him

And bid him come to you. That with your saints he may praise you forever and ever. Amen.

At a subsequent Chrism Mass (2008), Pope Benedict, challenged his priestly brothers to fully live this excellence of friendship and love through, with, and in the Church: “Being friends with Jesus is par excellence always friendship with His followers. We can be friends of Jesus only in communion with the whole Christ, with the Head and with the Body; in the vigorous vine of the Church to which the Lord gives life.”  These holy days of Passiontide into Holy Week into Easter give us fruitful pause to pray for the priestly recipients of our prayers that they aspire to live a communion of Will, in an ever-deepening friendship with Christ – as men being guided by Christ, as men of prayer, as men who model friendship with Christ by genuine friendship with the Body of Christ.   And in so doing and in it all, we are praying precisely for their holiness!

The Apostolate serves as a rich seedbed and flourishing garden for cultivating our own friendships with Christ, as well as with one another.  Along the way, at one time or another, one for the other, we have served as models of fidelity to prayer, loving shelters in times of need, pillars of patience and understanding, exemplars of generosity, beacons of hope.  One for the other, we have served as that “faithful friend” who is an “elixir of life” (Sirach 6:16) – we too moving on our simple paths of holiness.

In quiet humility and serious dedication to everything set before him, Pope Benedict XVI embodied a life growing and glowing in the friendship of Jesus Christ.  He practiced what he preached.  For him, this friendship was the sine qua non of the Catholic life.  Nurturing and advancing that friendship defined the full mission of the Church.  Pope Benedict lived this conviction until his final breath.  His last words, in Italian, were, “Lord, I love you.”  As that time approaches for each, may it be so that the last breath for every priest we pray for and for ourselves, as well, sincerely be: Lord, I love you.”

– Janette (Howe) +JMJ+ 651-283-0929; 43 Nord Circle Rd, St Paul, MN 55127; sevensistersapostolate@gmail.com

MATTERS of the HEART:

  • “I love the simple organizational structure you have and very clear vision.  It lets the Holy Spirit come into things.”  (Fr Michael Guthrie, Westminster Cathedral, London)
  • “You enter into the Will of God when you pray for us.  You have no idea how much we need you and you need us. There is no way we priests can thank you enough!” (Fr James Schibi, Kansas)
  • “Thank you for the Seven Sisters Apostolate.  Truly, our group – and beyond – has become “united in prayer.” When we visit Southwest Florida for vacation, I love spending my Holy Hour in the Chapel at San Marco. In February I was praying my Hour there. A woman in the pew in front of me pulled out a Seven Sisters Apostolate Holy Card. Unity reaches beyond parishes! My heart felt so full to be praying alongside another Sister that I had never met. Before I left, I showed her one of my Seven Sisters Holy Cards and the Seven Sisters booklet. She smiled, nodded her head & whispered, “Me too!” (Sue, Minnesota)
  • “I am a home school mom of 4 kiddos.  And though I do not have much “extra” time I am confident that there will be fruits if we faithfully pray for our shepherds.  When we lived in South Carolina I was an apostolate for a bit. We have since moved and I have felt a strong push that we need to pray for our priest.” (Amanda, Idaho)
  • “All my life I have had a very strong love for the Lord, who eventually led me to the Catholic church.   I had NO problem with any of the teachings.   This led me to proudly proclaim: “I may not have been born Catholic, but I was born to BE CATHOLIC!!!” I heard about Seven Sisters at a retreat.  I might know some Fasting Brothers who will join, and a quilters group in our parish I will be approaching!”  (Linda, North Dakota)
  • “I currently reside in a retirement community.  Before this I was an active member of my parish.  Praying for Father Joseph who also resides in a retirement community is one way I can contribute to the Church. To honor and cover him in prayers for his continued love and commitment to our Lord is a way to show he is not forgotten and his service is valued.”  (Janet, Florida)
  • “I worked in parish/diocesan ministry for many years.  I’ve witnessed priests’ joys, blessings, heartaches, exhaustion, exhilarations, their sadness and loneliness, their unselfish giving and their need of prayer.  I’m honored to share in this beautiful ministry for our priests.” (Kit, Louisiana)

March 2026 Communiqué

March 2026 Communiqué

PDF of Communique March 2026

Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ as we persist in the Lenten journey through the full breadth of March.  A Benedictine monk recently mused that in the Rule of St Benedict, the only places where the word ‘joy’ is explicitly mentioned are in the chapter on Lent!  For Seven Sisters this resonates.  We eagerly anticipate to honor within our Lenten days our 15th Anniversary of Inspiration Day (24 March 2011), the Feast of Apostolate patron, St Margaret Clitherow (26 March) and the Solemnity of St Joseph (19 March), patron of Fasting Brothers.  What a trifecta of pure JOY!  There is more …

Worldwide in every Catholic church big and small, in every language, after the people sign themselves to begin holy Mass, the priest invites: “Let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.”  St John Vianney urges, “If we really understood the Mass, we would die of joy.” What a compelling invitation! The heart of every Mass is the re-presentation of the abiding Paschal mysteries (passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord).   The striking Holy Thursday icon above underscores this through its painted title, “Mystical Supper”.  Thus, our Lenten hours and days expressly poise us to “prepare ourselves” to “celebrate” more profoundly the sacred mysteriesHow fitting that the priest, a deep mystery in his own right, bids this summons.  For who can understand the priest imbued with an ontological change at his Ordination?  His vocation and mission are marked by an indelible spiritual character.  Our Faith reminds that he is an “alter Christus” (another Christ), fit for conferring the sacraments (the eastern Church notably terms them “the seven holy mysteries”).  A priest who says “I” (I absolve) or “my” (This is My Body) is not doing this in his name, but rather in the name of Christ, in persona Christi Capitis (the person of Christ, the Head).  Thus is the divine design of Christ, who instituted all of the sacraments, to initiate both Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders on Holy Thursday, that treasured day for Seven Sisters who love both sacraments. The priests are chosen, appointed to be stewards of the divine mysteries.  “The power of the priest, is the power of the divine person; for the transubstantiation of the bread requires as much power as the creation of the world” (St Bernardine of Siena). St Leonard of Port Maurice poses earnest questions: “What tongue, human or angelic, may ever describe a power so immeasurable as that exercised by the simplest priest in Mass?  Who could ever have imagined that the voice of man, which by nature hath not the power even to raise a straw from the ground, should obtain through grace a power so stupendous as to bring from Heaven to earth the Son of God?” Regarding the mysteries of Confession: “It seemed likewise impossible for sins to be forgiven through penance; yet Christ granted even this to his Apostles, and by His Apostles it has been transmitted to the offices of priest” (St Ambrose).

The consistent prayerful efforts of Seven Sisters bear a stubborn hope toward both the preservation and flourishing of the priestly life and its held mysteries.  How relentless are the exterior and interior battles of the priests. Their patron (and ours), St John Vianney, reminds them (and us), I tell you that you have less to suffer in following the Cross than in serving the world and its pleasures.” Clerics carry extra burdens, If priests sin, all the people are led to sin. Hence every one must render an account of his own sins; but the priests are also responsible for the sins of others” (St John Chrysostom).  Seven Sisters recognize and uphold these thoughts of St Peter Chanel regarding the priesthood, “In such a difficult mission one has to be holy.” And for such, we continue in our sacrifices of prayer.  Sanctity for our priests!

While our Catholic Faith bears manifold and deep mysteries, and central, the highest form of our prayer, the Mass, these mysteries are not secret, but gradually knowable through God’s timing and revelation.   The generous gift of the mysteries of the rosary to the Church assist us. “The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christ-centered prayer.  It has all the depth of the gospel message in its entirety” (St John Paul II).  Our prayerful endeavors sharpen our eyes to see and ears to hear, and soften our heart to receive.  We learn and live, enveloped in splendid sacred mysteries, that little by little gain revelation in God’s Will and Way.   And herein is an abiding joy of our Faith that, as St Ignatius intimates, those open to the mystery of Christ, desiring to live lives fully in Christ, truly live “finding God in all things”.

God’s Work through the Seven Sisters Apostolate seems to rest in the folds of mystery too.  For long before any of us or any priests existed, His providential impulse existed.  The heaven-sent plan arrived in the humility of whispered words in the basement level Chapel of the Cathedral of St Paul.  Seven groups of seven sisters for seven priests in seven parishes for one year.  How generous are the hearts who have since been keen to subsequent whispers and nudges – and given full fiat to God’s plan and purposes alongside. He has multiplied all.  For 15 years our sacrifices and prayers have linked with those of centuries past. Today the Apostolate Work is appealing to many and blessing many. God’s Hand and Heart will direct what is ahead.  To Him be the glory both now and forever.  St John Chrysostom aptly describes what brings Seven Sisters to our knees Hour after Hour, week after week:  The potency of prayer hath subdued the strength of fire; it hath bridled the rage of lions, hushed anarchy to rest, extinguished wars, appeased the elements, expelled demons, burst the chains of death, expanded the gates of heaven, assuaged diseases, repelled frauds, rescued cities from destruction, stayed the sun in its course, and arrested the progress of the thunderbolt.”  This is our call, let us live in its mystery!  God’s brilliance and sovereignty, our collaboration.

Your emails, notes and calls always arrive to my heart door at the just the right moment! Financial sacrifices are for 100% furtherance of the Apostolate. Your letters of testimony are beautiful and edifying! What glory is given to God through them! MATTERS of the HEART:

  • “Even as a little kid, I always liked to talk to our parish priest. As an adult, I have wanted to help our priests as they worked hard to help us. Now I serve as sacristan during the week. So, praying for
them just seems natural. God bless you as you promote Seven Sisters.” (Mary Ellen, Ohio, 90+ years old)
  • “The first year I was a sub. I attended your day of reflection and inspired to be a regular Adorer. I saw wonderful fruit in the Parish, Pastor, the Seven Sisters and my own life from this wonderful Apostolate! I saw hardened hearts soften, ministries grow and witnessed the Parish, itself, beginning to grow. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer! Regular Prayer is needed for our priests and Bishops.”  (Kathy, Georgia)
  • I am a stay-at-home wife/mom and enjoy spending time helping our parish. I offered to be an anchoress as I know it is difficult for some who work to have additional time for coordinating groups. I have watched priests battle struggles and hardships like many of us. There is a lot of weight on their shoulders and I want to be
able to help hold up their arms when they are weak.” (Johnnie, Tennessee)
  • A decade ago, I was introduced to Eucharistic adoration.  It has opened my eyes & heart to the love of Christ.  I have grown in a desire to pray, lead others to prayer, and love of praying for priests.”  (Mary, Pennsylvania)
  • “Praying for priests has always been a priority in my life.  I am truly humbled to start this apostolate at my church to make sure our priests are showered with prayer. There is no greater gift.” (Mary, Texas)
  • “Through priests the Lord may be present in every Eucharist. They are the most valuable gift we have. We must pray for them so that they may be saints, grow stronger every day, and remain firm in their faith. In this way we may draw closer to the Blessed Sacrament that awaits us daily.” (Ruth, Indiana)
  • “I have been a Seven Sister for a couple of years. I love this ministry specifically because we have a special opportunity to pray for our priests and ensure that each day someone is offering up an adoration hour just for them. They need our prayers.  I feel so blessed to be in a diocese where vocations are growing and young men are embracing their call to the priesthood. By strengthening and building up our priests, they have the graces not only to fulfill their duties but also minister to those who will come after them.” (Magen, Kansas)

February 2026 Communiqué

February 2026 Communiqué

PDF of Feb 2026 Communique

Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ as we continue in Ordinary time in February toward the doorsill of Ash Wednesday (18th), then welcoming the fruitful season of Lent!  All is seamlessly linked.  After full Advent days of reflection upon the great fiat of Mary, in Lent we persist – now to consider our own responses, the good and not-so-good, alike.  It is said that St Philip Neri once served a penitent this penance regarding gossip: she was to carry a feather pillow atop the church bell-tower and tear it open, scattering the contents to the wind.  Following, she was to collect the feathers now strewn throughout the town.  Clearly impossible!  The saintly Fr Neri’s counsel underscored the far-reaching nature of malicious words.  While the Lenten season challenges us to examine errant responses, perhaps the season can also lend insight into our beneficial responses – which also carry potentially far-reaching influence!  Oh, that our souls may indeed magnify the Lord!

A priest-friend recently pointed out that the first fiat came from GodFiat Lux. “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3).  Mary’s fiat (fiat mihi), “Let it be (done) to me” (Luke 1:38), was in reply to the messenger of God thus a response to God Himself.   The link is evident!  God’s fiat creates the dawn, new life.  Mary’s fiat serves as conduit for the New Dawn, the Light of the world.   While God’s fiat is a command, Mary’s is a response.  In imitation, our replies, our fiats, to the askings of God, assent to cooperate in His will, His works, His life.  This deeply resonates with Seven Sisters.  Not only did the initial invitation to join God’s Work through this Apostolate arrive on the traditional feast of St Gabriel (24 March 2011), but the initial fiat was immediately dependent on other fiats.  Likewise with Mary.  St Joseph’s fiat to God’s call dovetailed Mary’s fiat.  St John the Baptist, the Apostles, the women that followed Our Lord.  All are allied.  No Seven Sisters group commences with one intercessor, but necessitates others – and a priest or bishop too!  This is the fiat we offer – to respond individually, in alliance, for another.  Our fiat dovetails into the fiat of the priestly recipients of our prayers.  Our sacrifices of prayer wonderfully bolster both.  How perfectly suited as we each weekly rekindle our fiat with our prayers, spiritually alongside one another, and upheld by the love of the Sacrament of Unity!

Mary’s bold fiat was not a “one and done”, but rather a firm decision of offering her whole self in the present and toward the future.  Her “yes” meant “yes” – today and tomorrow.  The echo of her fiats reaches us. Despite not fully understanding the call, Mary’s faith guided and affirmed.   Like Mary, Seven Sisters choose trust over certainty.  We assent to the invitation to prayer compelled by a heavenly summons not our sense of competency.   St John Paul II termed this receptivity a hallmark aspect of the feminine geniusGrace rouses both the fiat and the fulfillment.  It is the opposite of self-assurance and assertion.  We enter the Holy Hours dependent on the divine assistance of our Eucharistic Lord.  This reality generates gratification and joy.  The saintly Alphonsus de Ligouri explains, “Good friends find pleasure in one another’s company.  Let us know pleasure in the company of our best Friend, a Friend who can do everything for us, a Friend who loves us beyond measure.  Here in the Blessed Sacrament, we can talk to Him straight from the heart.”  We surrender our need to understand in order to obey, or to see the fruit before we begin.  Why would we hold back from God’s bidding?

Reverberations of Mary’s exalted fiat are far-reaching: “And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.”  So too – what fruit has been born through the life of Christ through our fiats!   Seven Sisters might offer a chorus of:  And blessed is the fruit of our hearts, JesusApostolate groups continue to steadily flourish (now in 36 countries), lavishing more prayer for more priests/bishops.  Fiat begetting fiat is evident in the generous fruition of our Apostolate life through LAMP-BEARERS (daily prayer for the Apostolate at large); FASTING BROTHERS (men devoted to fasting for a priest/bishop); APPRECIATED and LOVED QUILT PROJECT (double cloaking of prayers and a quilt for retired/seriously ill priests); ELIJAH’s HELPERS (Holy Hours for priests in crisis) and PRO PACE (prayer for the souls of priests in Purgatory).  What abundance!

Yet with all this conveyed and celebrated, the sterling fruit of our fiats can best be understood as cultivated in our interiors.   What is witnessed on the outside has its sweet seed and bud on the inside.  Truly, Our Lord is making all things new from the inside out!  St Paul avows (Galatians 5:22-23) – and Seven Sisters generously reveal through their prayers for their priestly Brothers in Christ and in their individual lives – that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. How tenderly beautiful is the docility of Seven Sisters to the Holy Spirit Who has endowed the evidence of this fruit that will last.  Seven Sisters have a consistent orientation to will the good of the other.  This gives rise to a maturity of the life of the Holy Spirit within.  Let us not shy from asking that those for whom we pray and ourselves too, may wholly grow in the fruit of the Spirit.  This is our sure witness.  Yes, perhaps this Lenten season will lend insight into this “good” in the recipients of our Holy Hours, the sisters we pray alongside and in ourselves.  Sharing in the verve of the Fiat of Mary, let us hope to also share in her Magnificat that our souls magnify the Lord, and our spirits rejoice in God our Savior, for God has looked with favor on the lowliness of the Almighty’s servant(s).

Your emails, notes and calls always arrive to my heart door at the just the right moment! Financial sacrifices are for 100% furtherance of the Apostolate. Your letters of testimony are beautiful and edifying! What glory is given to God through them! Be assured of my continued daily prayers for you at the altar. – Janette (Howe) +JMJ+ 651-283-0929; 43 Nord Circle Rd, St Paul, MN 55127; sevensistersapostolate@gmail.com

MATTERS of the HEART:

  • “Rejoice with me! There are now seven women who have committed to praying an hour weekly for our priest!  I feel so blessed to have been called to do this and I am so grateful for your support and encouragement.  I do know that it is of God and because of that, it will continue!” (Kathy, Alabama
  • “All sisters are enjoying our solitude prayer before the Blessed Sacrament for our recipient.  We feel close to him and to the apostolate through this.  We’re going strong, along with you!” (Bernadette, South Carolina)
  • “I heard about the Apostolate at a Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites meeting. I was interested right away and had the desire to go to as many churches as possible to tell others!  l went straight to Saint Joseph, knelt, lit a candle and asked for help. My group was ready in a week and a half.” (Bernadette, Pennsylvania)
  • “The mother of Fr. Ramirez contacted me about Seven Sisters.  Even though we have the same last name (my Maiden name is Ramirez), we are not related.  About 40 years ago, my brother was in seminary. He discerned out, along with a seminarian and good friend, Manuel.  Manuel married Leticia, who then became Fr. Ramirez’s mother.  Father was recently assigned to our parish.  It is an honor to pray for him.” (Anita, Texas)
  • “Our priests are under such ruthless attacks from the evil one, we must do everything we can to protect them. I love this Apostolate.” (Jan, Louisiana)
  • “I have been greatly helped by prayers on my behalf in my own life and I am convinced that prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is powerful.  I would like to organize a group to lift up this holy young priest in prayer.” (Mary Margaret, New York)
  • “Thank you for all of the beautiful messages with the Communiques each month. I look for the email immediately at the first of the month when I wake up.  They mean the world to us.” (Patti, Texas)
  • “I was asked to sub for a sister who was sick for several months, and I absolutely loved praying a dedicated Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament for our pastor.  A prayer I have been saying for priests for many years is one recommended by the Apostolate.  I felt very connected in that way! When an Anchoress position became available, I was asked to discern. I felt so honored and humbled at being asked. Through prayer, I felt strongly that I was being called to serve in this capacity.  With great joy, I accepted.” (Maria, Idaho)

January 2026 Communiqué

January 2026 Communiqué

PDF of January 2026 Communique

Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ as together we live the joys of Christmastide all the way to Epiphany. The sweet midpoint is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (Jan 1).  Then the Jubilee Year officially comes to a close (Jan 6) in Roma, leaving us plump with graces-to-overflowing.  In the announcement of the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis yearned for a fruitful outcome: “We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us and help everyone gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision.” What a pleasant echo within the heart of every Seven Sister who is compelled by these very plans:  of hope, of strength, of trust.  Now one year later, perhaps you are observing evidence of these very things in the priest/bishop for whom you faithfully prayed.  Maybe others are noticing these things in your life!

Like the trusting, reposed child in Dewey’s painting, Our Lord draws each one close, and closer still, to His most Sacred Heart, close enough to experience and embrace His love and its illuminating bearings.   From here we are sent upon a course to bear witness to the light – that others too will know and desire Christ.  In every age, through His children, Our Lord issues particular signs to guide humanity.  He raises up what and who is needed – when and where and how.  Consider the myriads of leaders along the arc of time within the Church, the diversity of religious Orders, lay movements, Apostolates.  What a rich depository and divine orchestration of colossal, brilliant influences, and so clearly right alongside petit, discreet onesIn these times, Seven Sisters indeed bear an illuminating witness – individually and collectively, in evident and subtle ways.  Our collective individual fiats to God’s Work through the Apostolate have proven flowering and fruitful.

The world is on the look-out for goodness, beauty and truth.  The lives of the saints and saints-in-the-making, like you and I and all the priests and bishops for whom we beg graces, are sent to satisfy those hungers.  Our Lord awakens awareness of His life through our lives more than we envision.  Unbeknownst to us, the constancy and priority of our weekly prayer, our admittance of a sense that we fall short at times, our perseverance and tenacity despite, our reverential mannerisms as we pray, our generosity to “cover Hours”, our words of encouragement to fellow Sisters, the fruit of the prayer offerings – all may likely be bearing witness that escapes our own perception.  Seemingly insignificant acts bore witness through our heavenly brothers and sisters.  It is said that the unhurried, humble Sign of the Cross enacted by St Bernadette Soubirous converted the hearts of those nearby.  Yes, that universal prayer that serves as prelude or ending to more prayer, that many hasten through.  Yes, this prayer transformed onlookers.  History reminds that Our Lady herself repeatedly helped wee Bernadette to reverently perfect the Sign.  In that learning, souls were renewed.  As a French missionary nun in the United States, St Rose Philippine Duchesne, gained a title from the Potawatomi Indians.  With them but a year, her fervent hours of prayer stirred them to name her, Quah-kah-ka-num-ad, “Woman Who Prays Always”.  It is written of St Francis Xavier, known to spend long hours in the Adoration Chapel, that at times when distributing Holy Communion, he was so struck with such adoration toward Our Lord who was in his hands, that he got on his knees and in that position continued distributing Holy Communion (Jesus, Our Eucharistic Lord, Fr Stefano Manelli, O.F.M).

The entire heavenly court is involved and united in the prayers that Christians offer.  What delight undoubtedly beams from heaven where is witnessed the prayers and piety of Seven Sisters and the priests/bishops for whom they dedicate their prayers.  This great cloud of witnesses influences our witness.  They journey with us.  Their examples, insights and active prayers illuminate and guide our current witness to be more effective.  What is small and routine and seemingly not worthy to note in our life, may be the very aspect that Our Lord uses – and likely does!  Fitting to this reflection on light and witness, many Seven Sisters offer this prayer of St John Henry Newman in their Hour.  (Masculine pronouns have been substituted for first person pronouns.)

Dear Jesus, Help _____ to spread Your fragrance everywhere he goes. Flood his soul with Your spirit and Your life. Penetrate and possess his whole being so utterly, that his life may only be a radiance of Yours. Shine through him, and be so in him, that every soul he comes in contact with may feel Your presence in his soul. Let them look up and see no longer him, but only Jesus! Stay with him and then he shall begin to shine as You shine, so to shine as to be a light to others. The light, O Jesus, will be all from You; none of it will be his.  It will be You, shining on others through him. Let him thus praise You in the way You love best, by shining on those around him. Let him preach You without preaching, not by words but by his example, by the catching force of the sympathetic influence of what he does, the evident fullness of the love his heart bears to You. Amen.

Dearest Sisters in Christ, let us not diminish that which has been cultivated and is flourishing through the graces of the Jubilee.  Let us remain intercessors and witnesses of hope, of strength, of trust.  Let us entrust our every act to this cause.  For here nothing is wasted, all bears witness to the light.

United in prayer, fasting and mission…that our prayers may find the heart of every bishop and priest Eternal gratitude continues as you each offer a daily wee Hail Mary for me. MATTERS of the HEART:

  • “I received a text about the Pro Pace Group and felt the Holy Spirit tugging at my heart for some homebound parishioners who might be willing to pray for the priests in Purgatory. The first I reached out to was very moved and felt like she was part of the Church again with a purpose, even though bed-ridden. She found a website to listen to a daily Mass, and she was moved to tears hearing Mass again for the first time in a while. She was very eager to participate.  We found three more parishioners that were excited to help and filled in the remaining days with regular daily Mass attendees, who are also Seven Sisters.” (Margi, Kansas)
  • “I can feel God’s love between each of our “sisters”.  We look forward to the monthly Communique – so full of love and beauty! What a beautiful ministry. What a privilege to pray!”  (Bernie, Pennsylvania)
  • “I first learned about the Seven Sisters Apostolate during a Nurse Honor Guard service for a fellow nurse. Another nurse told me about her involvement. Her testimony inspired me deeply.  I have given this calling much thought and prayer. Moved by the mission, I am eager to begin.” (Colleen, Nebraska)
  • “I am profoundly grateful for priests who give so much of themselves.  My faith has grown deeply through my dedication to Eucharistic Adoration, and I firmly believe in the power of prayer.” (Jen, Arizona)
  • “I saw an ad in a bulletin of another parish to join the Apostolate. I heard God calling me to start this in my own parish. I had just begun reading 33 Days to Eucharistic Glory. It is important to be before the Eucharist and praying for others.  I hope to deepen my relationship with God, bring fruits of the Holy Spirit to our pastor and parish, and build community with the women sharing in this Apostolate.” (Angel, Missouri)
  • “I had a spiritual moment happen to me recently. Reflecting on it, I believe it was Our Lady asking me to prayer for our priests. I casually came across the Seven Sisters Apostolate and knew! (Corrine, Wisconsin)
  • “When I learned that a retired priest was also able to have a Seven Sisters group to pray for them, I formed this group to follow our pastor into retirement.  I had been his anchoress previously, and he always told me that he experienced the difference when he had the Seven Sisters praying for him.  I have discovered that it is a great blessing to have the privilege of praying for our priests in this powerful way before the Blessed Sacrament! I hope always to have a place in Seven Sisters!” (Arlene, Florida)
