Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ as we continue our Lenten journey, having freshly experienced two oasis days in March on the Solemnities of St Joseph (19th) and the Annunciation (25th). As Seven Sisters we had good cause to also take joyful pause on Inspiration Day (14 years on the 24th!) and on the Feast of our patron, St Margaret Clitherow (26th). Parting the curtains to April, we now gain sight of Holy Week, Easter Sunday (20th), and Easter Octave with its culmination in Divine Mercy Sunday (27th). Oh, do recall with great delight that this is also the Jubilee Year! Go forth in peace, for you have followed the good road (St Clare of Assisi).
Our Lenten liturgies put us face-to-face with much: miseries, temptations, sinfulness, fasting, generosity, humility, repentance, forgiveness, conversion. All along, step by step, our priests nudge us onward. Their homilies aspire to fortify with new insight, remind of the ever-abundance of graces, and ultimately invite us to a courage to delve more deeply into our Faith’s greatest treasury: the Paschal Mystery. The passion, death and resurrection of Christ is inexhaustible as the supreme sign of God’s inexhaustible merciful love. All this is affixed in the hearts of our priests, for they are ambassadors of merciful love. Priests respond daily in walking intimately in this Mystery alongside Christ, who is Merciful Love.“We are far less lonely than anyone else, for we can count on the constant company of the Lord, with whom we should be conversing without interruption. We are in love with Love, with the Author of Love!” (St. Josemaria Escriva)
It has been said that priests are anointed for the sake of the sacraments. During the annual Holy Thursday’s Chrism Mass, where oils for sacramental use are newly blessed, priests fittingly renew their promises offered on the day of their Ordination. During the Chrism Mass in the Year of Mercy (24 March 2016 – and also our Apostolate’s 5th anniversary of Inspiration Day), Pope Francisfocused his remarks on the topic of mercy. He beautifully reminded priests that one of their principal responsibilities is to make mercy visible in the same way as Jesus, who always conferred it in excess. “As priests, we are witnesses to and ministers of the ever-increasing abundance of the Father’s mercy; we have the rewarding and consoling task of incarnating mercy, as Jesus did.”
What a privilege of prayer we accept as Seven Sisters. Our priests are given the heavenly commission of incarnating mercy. There is much to uphold in prayer in support of the life of a priest/bishop who as St Ambrose echoes, “God made them, the vicars of His love.” Lent and Eastertide are perfect seasons to examine and fortify our sacrifices of prayers, for these seasons emphasize the sacraments of Reconciliation, Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders, which emphasize merciful love. Priests avail themselves to a super abundance of Confessional times during this season. Let us pray that they not grow weary but instead be enlivened and grow in a love for this sacrament –as both Confessor and penitent. Let us seek the intercession of their patron, St John Vianney, a stellar model of merciful love and endurance as Confessor. Recently a retired Bishop shared how he meets monthly with a priest to celebrate Mass together. After the Mass the priest retrieves a confessional stole and gives it to the bishop, who hears the priest’s confession. The bishop returns the favor and gives the stole to the priest to hear his. Breakfast follows for the priestly brothers. In discipline and fellowship, they live what Our Lord disclosed to St Faustina, “There (in the confessional) the greatest miracles take place and are constantly repeated. … The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full” (Diary, 1448). How often the priestly hearts must be graced in the work of their own interior conversion, precisely by their active listening role as Confessor. What solace to that heart of a priest as he accepts the confessions of children and the return of “big fish” (as St John Vianney called those long away from the sacrament). Yes, that our priests love Confession more and more!
As we pray for those that God chooses to be His conduits of love in this world, let us take the opportunity to ourselves berenewed in the experience of God’s merciful love. May we too sense through frequent and good Confessions, as did convert-to-the-Faith, St Elizabeth Ann Seton, “I felt as if my chains fell, as those of St Peter at the touch of the Divine messenger. My God, what new scenes for my soul!” Prayerfully consider preparing to offer a General Confession, a reviewing of one’s whole life (or extended period). Earnestly reflecting on one’s history can be an effective way to notice repeating patterns, and also to come to a realization of God’s deep and abiding merciful love despite our lack of faithfulness at times.
At the Chrism Mass of 2016, the Holy Father also emphasized that priests carry a special role in enculturating mercy, “so that each person can embrace it and experience it personally. Mercy restores everything; it restores dignity to each person.” We often witness this deep love and work in our priests/bishops through ourselves or others. Let us pray the influence of these ambassadors of merciful love becomes increasingly effectual in the culture. Regarding our hoped Apostolate prayer reach, we tout, “Let no shepherd be left behind”. Let us fervently pray toward a vibrant witness from the hearts and lives of our merciful shepherds: “Let no sheep be left behind”!
United in prayer, fasting and mission…that our prayers may find the heart of every bishop and priest. Eternal gratitude continues as you each offer a daily wee Hail Mary for me. “One Ave Maria makes hell tremble”(St John Vianney). Pray that I will not ‘spoil the beautiful work that God has entrusted…’ (St Teresa of Calcutta). Your emails, notes and calls always arrive to my heart door at the just the right moment! Financial sacrifices are for 100% furtherance of the Apostolate. Your letters of testimony are beautiful and edifying! What glory is given to God through them! Be assured of my continued daily prayers for you at the altar. – Janette (Howe) +JMJ+ 651-283-0929; 43 Nord Circle Rd, St Paul, MN 55127; [email protected]

MATTERS of the HEART:
“Knowing that a member of Seven Sisters is personally praying a Holy Hour for me each day is a source of comfort in times of difficulty, a source of strength in times of temptation, and a source of peace in times of turmoil. Your witness to prayer is a daily reminder of God’s love for me and those whom I shepherd. Please know that your prayers make a difference in my personal and priestly like.” (Fr JD Betzen, Kansas)
“A friend from high school, who I had not seen or visited with in quite some time, was in from Florida for a funeral and attended Mass at my parish. While praying she sensed a calling to begin a Seven Sisters group for the pastor. She wondered how, since she lives in Florida! I then came into her mind and she turned around and saw me. She spoke with the priest after Mass, then tracked me down through a mutual friend and sent info. We now have Seven Sisters committed to prayer for our pastor.” (Alyce, Louisiana)
“I am proud and, at the same time, humbled that you should remember me in such a magnificent and sacerdotal way before our Eucharistic Lord!My mission here is to assist anyone in spiritual need, but especially priests. Therefore, “holy women of Jerusalem,” thank you for permitting me to lend a hand to those in need. You are a constant reminder to me that I, too, stand in much need of spiritual support in this work. God reward you for the sacrifices you make for priests.” (Fr C Murr, Sevilla, Spain)
“While on a retreat, I learned about this beautiful ministry and felt immediately drawn. I mentioned it to our pastor. He shared he had recently spoken with his mother about how he felt a lack of intentional prayer for him. At his previous parish, the Seven Sisters was active, and he had experienced firsthand the strength and grace that came from being regularly lifted up in prayer. Priests face spiritual battles, heavy responsibilities, and often loneliness. Through the Apostolate, we can ensure that our priest is supported, encouraged, and strengthened in his mission.” (Kym, Wisconsin)

Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ as we embrace Ash Wednesday on March 5th, opening the door to that treasured and effectual Lenten trifecta: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We take these paths together!
My mother was one of seven biological sisters. Two made their home in California, the others nearby her in the Midwest. No matter which of her sisters welcomed our visit, the visit always, always, included an elbows-linked walk admiring that aunt’s flourishing flower patches encircling her home and the coveted garden “out back”. Most of the strolls were held in quiet appreciation of the fragrances, patterns, and colors, but sometimes the joy of the beauty came out through squeals and bending low to cherish each bloom and bud and bug. We women seem to innately carry that gift of tranquilly respecting another who is taking in the splendor of something. We are full-to-overflowing contented by another’s joy. This is evident in Seven Sisters Apostolate. You display an apparent delight in simply responding to the invitation to what God is asking of you through your sacrifices of prayers, and content in abiding in Him. And further, you seem to also share a genuine delight in the response of others to it too. As Scripture assures, in that mutual abiding much fruit is born. Alone we cannot bear fruit.
In his “Streams of Living Water” Thomas Kinkade offers a countryside brimming with life – from the heights of heavenly-blue skies to the far-off mountain to lush flatlands to a colossal tree firmly planted by clear, flowing streams to that which is central – the glowing church with spire and cross atop! Figuratively this seems to fittingly speak of our Apostolate work. Through fidelity to our regular Holy Hours, the heart of the Apostolate, there evolves a steady yield of fruit. Our endeavors remain firmly rooted by the living waters of our Eucharistic Lord, necessarily linked to the Church and brimming with new life. Considering this painting, let us take a stroll, elbows-linked, in the good garden that the Lord has planted and is cultivating through the Apostolate – and together take in the splendor of God’s abounding work. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God (II Corinthians 4:15).
SEVEN SISTERS groups continue to steadily spring forth, lavishing more prayer for more priests/bishops. Each Communique gives a snapshot of where new groups began during that month. Each month a sampling of testimonies from Seven Sisters intercessors offers evidence to a rich bloom of individual, interior growth.
The generous LAMP-BEARERS pray for the Apostolate at large. Each intercessor offers prayers every day, and prays for two distinct countries to begin or increase prayer efforts there for priests. The daily sacrifices of Lamp-Bearers keep the Apostolate gardens well-watered!
FASTING BROTHERS are groups of men devotedly offering diverse forms of fasting for a particular priest or bishop, augmenting the prayer efforts of a Seven Sisters group. What fruit these efforts bear! “My friend, the devil is not greatly afraid of the discipline and other instruments of penance. That which beats him is the curtailment of one’s food, drink and sleep. There is nothing the devil fears more; consequently, nothing is more pleasing to God.” – Patron, St. John Vianney
APPRECIATED and LOVEDQUILT PROJECT:A double cloaking for retired (or seriously ill) priests: Seven Sisters prayer and a unique quilt! These efforts exercise and manifest the abundant fruit of both the spiritual and corporal works of mercy – luxuriant with love and color!
ELIJAH’s HELPERSintercessors are dedicated to offering weekly Holy Hours for all priests within a particular Diocese who are experiencing various forms and measures of crisis (no names known). These distinctive Hours irrefutably bear special graces and special fruit.
PRO PACE (Latin, for peace) intercessorscommit to attend holy Mass once a week and offer their personal Mass intention and Communion for the souls of priests in Purgatory.“It is the Blood of Jesus Christ that is needed to extinguish the flames by which I am consumed; it is the August Sacrifice that will deliver me from these frightful torments” (Soul in purgatory to Bl Henry Suso).
Scripture reminds that God loves to walk with His creatures in the Garden. Continue this stroll with the Lord in your particular patch of the Apostolate garden – external and internal. Simply appreciate the beauty and goodness. All gratitude to Him. Learn what He desires. A little pruning here or there? Perhaps prayer will prompt to add a Fasting Brothers group, or join the Lamp-Bearers, Elijah’s Helpers, ProPace or Quilt Project. He plants, we abide, together we bear fruit…
This month we celebrate the FEAST DAY (March 26) of one of our patrons, St Margaret Clitherow. Most exemplary in her life was her burning love of our Eucharistic Lord. A heart aflame with such a love moved her to risk her life by harboring and supporting priests during the penal times in England. For such crimes of the state, St Margaret was martyred at age 30 on the Feast of the Annunciation, also Good Friday that year. Learn her story in The Pearl of York. Her two sons became priests, her daughter a religious Sister. St Margaret Clitherow, pray for us!FREEBIE: If your first, middle, last or Confirmation namesake is Margaret, send your name and address to [email protected]to receive a FREE medal of St Margaret Clitherow.

“After a second reading, I found the February Communique even more beautiful! Regarding siblings, I found that my warmth and love grew over the years. Being part of Seven Sisters, there is also a warmth and love that is extended by our Holy Hours for our spiritual brothers of priests. Indeed, brotherly love!” (JoAnn, Minnesota)
“My mother-in-law is a member of a group which prays for their archbishop. I’d like to get it started in my parish. I was inspired by my mother-in-law to become Catholic when I was pregnant with my first child, and her inspiration continues through her participation in this group.” (Carrie, Florida)
“My regular confessor (outside my diocese) suggested in January 2025 that I start a group. Unbeknownst to him, I had had it on my heart for about 2 years, but not doing anything about it. I took his suggestion as Jesus speaking to me through him… telling me it was time! So here I am.” (Marianne, Pennsylvania)
“Thank you for your inspirational monthly mailings. One of the recent testimonies was most interesting! Rose from Tennessee wrote that she prays to the Lord to place a song in her heart and the heart of her pastor. I was amazed since I have been praying that exact prayer for 3 months! The Holy Spirit is truly at work in us. My name is Rose too!” (Rose, South Carolina)
“Thirteen years ago, I converted to the Faith. Through devotion to Mary, I have become radically in love with Jesus, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament! Our priests give so much for us. Through them, we receive the Eucharist. Through them, God forgives our sins. This Apostolate is a beautiful way to support them spiritually, and to give them a renewed energy and joy for their ministry.” (Laura, Massachusetts)
“I had been wanting to start going to Adoration regularly again so when asked about joining a Seven Sisters group I was excited but nervous at first, wondering if I could keep the commitment. Now I find the Hour on Fridays goes by so fast. I want to stay longer every week! I love it!” (Mary Pat, Pennsylvania)
“For at least six months, I felt a call to something deeper. Though very involved in our church community, I had not discerned what this call was for. Now, I believe it was the Holy Spirit leading me to this Apostolate. Since this call/whisper began, I now truly feel that I am answering His call.” (Jen, Florida)

Greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ who in this Jubilee Year live as exemplary Pilgrims of Hope. Let us not grow weary in our witness of love and hope-filled anticipation. Graces in abundance are awaiting everyone!
Whether scurrying in serving others or quietly sitting, grandmothers are ever-observant. When they speak all ears (ought) listen. During our young family years, in a kind-yet-compelling way, my mother-in-law would sometimes call to one of our children and in the next breath simply add, “…that is not very becoming of a young man/woman.” Fully adopted into the family of God through baptismal waters, our lives attract kind and just observation too – of our heavenly Father for whom truly nothing escapes His sight. St Francis de Sales encourages a heightened awareness of God’s constant gaze: “Consider what God does and what you are doing. You will see His eyes turned toward you and constantly fixed on you with incomparable love.”
Seven Sisters have unique opportunities to not only acknowledge our blessed status as daughters of God, but also as sisters to those baptized to be our brothers in Christ and then ordained as our priestly Fathers too! Our Faith is a family affair wrought by the eternal desire of the Father, redemptive work of the Son and renewing work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinty stirs and guides a yearning toward living in harmony with others. The Holy Family is held as perfect model of selfless serving of one another. C0-existing as brothers and sisters in Christ proposes a responsibility to and for one another. While a central Christian tenet is to love all others as ourselves, our spiritual family bears a special duty. “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10).
The Apostolate’s God-given invitation arrived literally bearing a title that included the word “sisters”. The orientation of our prayer thus received its signet: to know, love and serve our brothers in Christ. We are called as sisters – not mothers nor neighbors nor bystanders, but family. We come alongside priests/bishops in prayer: special prayer for special brothers who hold a special sonship with God and union with Jesus. Following His baptism and announcement of Sonship, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to affirm His divine Sonship against the attacks of satan. Our priestly brothers who are eternally grafted into the priesthood of Jesus Christ undergo varying degrees of this same recurrent trial of challenge from satan – in the deserts of their places of service, in the deserts of their hearts and minds. Fundamentally, we are poised to strengthen our brothers in Christ through quiet sacrifices, fasting and prayers. Scripture reminds that the desert places find a mingling with the heavens. Hope reigns. Our prayers can serve to mystically support our brothers in Christ who so often and so intensely undergo this central and fierce battle of their earthly journey: to remember they are children of God, sons of the Father. What a coup if a priest or bishop succumbs to the battle and forfeits or minimizes his heavenly sonship. Our sisterly prayers beseech sanctity for our brothers in Christ, which at the core serve to preserve that they maintain their identity as a child of God with full inheritance! The combat is also ours. As we quiet our hearts to listen to God Who forever whispers, ‘You are My beloved child”, and to embrace this truth, our souls are helped and our prayers set to be fortified for our brothers in Christ. We are co-heirs with the Son, royal siblings helping to fortify His kingdom on earth, draw others to it, and together anticipate sharing the reward in heaven.
Scripture carries the beautiful, consistent story and language of family, calling us often to brotherly love. We are recognized and marked by this love, which is Christ’s love. A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:34-35). Scripture passages are often prefaced and addressed specifically to brothers and sisters. Let us intentionally pay closer attention, perhaps gaining a bit of guidance regarding our prayers for our brothers in Christ. These truths of Christ are for both of us!
Annually on May 2nd in the USA, Sibling Day is assigned to celebrate the unique relationships of brothers and sisters. It was established by a woman who, after her brother’s passing, sensed she did not adequately tell him while he was living, what he meant to her and how she loved him. As Christians, our sibling day can be every day. We hold rich opportunities through our prayers to frequently extend our love and appreciation for our brothers in Christ who are also our Fathers!
Grandma Howe was also generous with her praises of our children, but it was her wisdom in recognizing and confronting things that might harm our children that continues to impress. Love compelled her words. At the depth, she desired our children to “become” the man and woman they were destined to be. As sisters in Christ, let us continue to entrust our brothers in Christ to God’s Will that they may “become” all that God desires. Our noble way is through the serenity and confidence of our Holy Hours. May our actions please God’s constant gaze. Together, let us… Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor (Rom 12:10).

“I love the newest Holy Card – both the beautiful picture and the prayer! I also want to thank you for the December newsletter. I always enjoy them, but this one touched my heart and changed the way I pray. I was very regimented in praying my Hour. I took Fr de Caussade’s advice and yours. I used the Psalm from the Mass that day and prayed this for Father. I really sensed the Lord leading me in my prayer! I am encouraged to now expectantly listen to how God leads me in the Hour.” (Jenny, Ohio)
“I have grown in my appreciation of other priests and dearly love my Hour of prayer. It extends to frequent thoughts and prayer for my priest and for Seven Sisters.” (Joan, Indiana)
“I truly love praying for Father each week and look forward to the Hour. I’m so much closer to God than I could have imagined. It’s granted so many graces in my life. I’ve also gotten to know my “seven sisters”. We go to lunch in the summer!” (Shari, North Dakota)
“Through Seven Sisters, I now have a title for something I have been doing for decades – that is, praying for our priests and nurturing them when needed. I just love our priests.” (Gail, New Jersey)
“I am so thankful for the graces received while praying. I pray for the Lord to place a song in my heart and in the heart of my pastor, so in our way we could bring His joy to others.” (Rose, Tennessee)
“Even after just two of my Saturday sessions, I am seeing how many graces have begun flowing from my Holy Hours. I found the best time to go to our Chapel is while the 5 pm Vigil Mass is going on in the Church across from the Pastoral Center where the Chapel is located. I have never found such peace and silence. When I got ready to leave, I saw that I’d actually been there almost two hours! I practically had to tear myself away! When I got home, I found I had all Saturday evening to prepare for one of the Sunday morning Masses.” (Julie, Maryland)
“I love this ministry. It’s helped me so much with intentional prayer.” (Lilly, South Dakota)
“I have some exciting news. My son (19 y/o) subbed for a Seven Sister who was ill last week. He is now extremely interested in this Apostolate and has discerned a call to start the Fasting Brothers. He has already recruited two other young men, so three days are covered! He plans to talk to more men this Sunday at coffee hour. He himself has already begun his fasting day!” (Edel, Pennsylvania)

Christmastide and Jubilee-Year greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ – No matter the destination, my friend of recent memory, Patti, persuasively (and always with a smile) suggested travelling a slightly diverted route to “where people need our prayers today”. Heading toward those rough neighborhoods where her steady finger pointed, I locked the car doors while Patti unlocked her deep and driven heart of intercession. Enroute, the chitchat was over. It was time to partner in prayer for those trudging the coarser walkways of life. To these, who we caught only in glimpses as we passed by, we seemed to be sent to – on those days, in that hour, to beg hope.
Opening the Holy Doors on Christmas Eve the pope formally inaugurated the Jubilee Year2025. Its theme: Pilgrims of Hope. The very title brings a promising level of expectation.“We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and farsighted vision,” stated Pope Francis at the announcement of the plan months ago. What an affirmation and boost to our very work as Seven Sisters! How steadily we persist in our Holy Hours with these precise unwavering plans in mind – of hope, of strength, of trust. Yes, we are humbly familiar with the strides of pilgrims of hope! Oh, sisters in Christ, let us allow this Jubilee Year to fortify our resolve and more deeply conform us, and those for whom we pray, to Christ, Who is the fulfillment of our every Hope.
Finding its roots in the Old Testament tradition of a jubilee year of rest, forgiveness and renewal, a holy year or jubilee is a time of pilgrimage, prayer, repentance and acts of mercy. Pope Boniface VIII proclaimed the first Holy Year in 1300 and decreed that Jubilees by observed every 100 years. Yet just 50 years later, Pope Clement VI proclaimed another holy year. By 1470, Pope Paul II decreed the holy years be held every 25 years. The practice continues, and even with additional special jubilees.
Pilgrimage necessarily requires prayer, reflection and silence to discover the heart’s deepest cries and to discern the Will and guidance of God. Pilgrimage necessarily beckons movement – sometimes in the physical, always in the interior. In embracing the pilgrim’s heart in this Jubilee Year, it behooves us to recall and relish the reality that Our Lord awakens us to His nearness when we call for Him, and more so, He stays with us. He is our Emmanuel and journeys with us. We are never alone. The same, of course, holds true for the priests/bishops for whom we pray. Oh, sisters in Christ, let us steadily plead both quieted and active pilgrim hearts for ourselves and for these brothers in Christ.
Walking through the doorway of designated Holy Doors is a sign of a desire for conversion. St John Paul II explains: “To pass through that door means to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord; it is to strengthen faith in Him in order to live the new life which He has given us. It is a decision which presumes freedom to choose and also the courage to leave something behind, in the knowledge that what is gained is divine life.” Envisioning the portals of our hearts tofling wide (as the hymn invites) to the graces of conversion is exhilarating and real. This openness often leads to a desire for repentance. For all of us, repentance presents the essential starting point of true conversion, allowing Our Lord to give us eyes to see, ears to hear and courage to meet His deepest love and mercy. Oh, sisters in Christ, let this gift of repentance be a regular prayer for ourselves and for the priest/bishop for whom we pray.
A Jubilee Year intensifies our call to offer tangible signs of hope, to be ministers of hope, by serving others through spiritual and corporal works of mercy. At their foundation, our weekly prayers as Seven Sisters bear these marks of hope. It has been said that those who fully embrace the journey of a pilgrim likely return from the journey as an apostle, ready to give reason for one’s hope. That which a pilgrim receives is meant to be shared. Oh, sisters in Christ, let us pray for ourselves and the priestly recipients of our prayer that we may generously bear witness to the abundance that has been received.
Pilgrims of Hope. We are being reminded in this Jubilee Year to fully live this God-given title. Hope is a stance rooted in a remembrance that God loves all and wants His good for each – here and in eternity. In Spe Salvi, his 2007 encyclical on hope, Pope Benedict XVI shares, “The one who has hope lives differently; the one who hopes has been granted the gift of a new life” (2). My friend Patti consistently sought the bereft in society and tenaciously begged God to instill hope in their lives. Seven Sisters witness this too in heart and in prayer. Our hope is not meager nor timid, but audacious, for ourselves and for the priests/bishops for whom we pray. We together live what Pope Benedict penned: “We become capable of the great hope, and thus we become ministers of hope for others. Hope in a Christian sense is always hope for others as well” (Spe Salvi, 34). Continue, sweet pilgrims, walk and grow in hope, and pray for ever-growing hope in our Shepherds!
United in prayer, fasting and mission…that our prayers may find the heart of every bishop and priest. Eternal gratitude continues as you each offer a daily wee Hail Mary for me. “One Ave Maria makes hell tremble”(St John Vianney). “I am so grateful for your love for the clergy and for all the time and energy you put into the Apostolate. I have been praying for a few years now for Pope Francis. I find that my love for our pontiff has grown and deepened because I pray for him. Many people have mixed feelings about him and I do too, but praying for him helps me trust the Lord for him and for the Church. Making a commitment to pray gets me to the Adoration Chapel. It’s a joy and I’m happy to pray for my pope.” (Bernadette, Minnesota)
(A fact: Currently we have 9 groups praying for the Holy Father. Our gift to him: 9 Holy hours a day!)
“I heard you on Seize the Day today. You knocked it out of the park. Yesterday, our group completed our 6th year of praying for our Pastor. My weekly holy hour is the best hour of my week! I know the Holy Spirit is doing good works through him for our parish and his spiritual life.” (MaryJane, Indiana)
“I was recently introduced to this Apostolate. Being fully aware that our priests are constantly under attack, I could not pass the opportunity to support my priest. As a lifelong Catholic, I believe that our priests deserve our help. Dedicating an hour a week to pray is the least I can do.” (Marie, Virginia)
“I learned about the Apostolate through our parish Bulletin. I was nervous about starting this spiritual work. I didn’t feel worthy. But it has had such an impact on my family over the years involved. I have received so much spiritual growth through praying each week that I feel greatly rewarded. It has strengthened my relationship with the Lord so much.” (Lisa, Ohio)
“I felt humbled and excited about praying for a holy man like our priest. He was excited and enthused and humbled that we are going to pray for him for a whole year!May Jesus, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, be with us and sustain us through this most noble mission.” (Enedelia, Texas)
“I can see the stress on the face of our new pastor. We are the largest parish in our Archdiocese. He has taken the place of 3 priests. A priest comes to assist in Masses and funerals but our pastor is alone in administration of this entire parish which includes a vibrant elementary school and many ministries. Though I have prayed for all our priests for some time now, I see the need of a daily Holy Hour for our pastor, in particular. Thank you for helping me form this group.” (Colleen, Massachusetts)
“Whether with the Apostolate or outside of it, prayers are the most central thing we do, singularly and as a group, for our priest(s). Like all our priests today our pastor is incredibly busy and stretched, needing the spiritual armor the Apostolate provides.” (Denise, Washington)

…in quietness and trust is your strength. – Isaiah 30:1
Madonna of the Grapes, pray for us! St John Vianney, pray for us!
Advent-into-Christmas-into-Jubilee-Year greetings to dearest Sisters in Christ – When in Nursing School, a Professor referred to a study regarding Harvard business school alum all educated during the same time with comparable instruction. Some proved remarkably successful; others fell miserably flat. What distinguished the two was lists. Those managing flourishing enterprises maintained the habit of scribing daily lists.
We likely can relate to these findings as we look at our own use and misuse of lists. We likely can also relate that Advent‘tis the season for a flurry of multiplication of lists. Some of us have or are set to add gift lists, guest lists, getting-ready-for-guests lists, expanded grocery and menu lists, and lists in the margins of the lists! Yet lest we fret that this kind of activity lies with our fallen natures, let us remember that Our Lord bore rather important lists too – like the Ten Commandments, a roster of the seven deadly sins, listing of gifts of the Holy Spirit. Our Lord holds a unique plan for each of us (likely with list aspects!) as gifts and a call that are irrevocable (Romans 11:29) What supreme JOY to consider that He masterfully weaves our plans (and lists!) and call together – at least in part – in our roles as Seven Sisters. Truly it will take an eternity to appreciate the intricacies of His workings!
We tiptoe into the New liturgical Year on December 1st, but it will quickly gain momentum on Christmas Eve with the opening of the Jubilee Year. Graces galore are set before us for deep conversion and the heightened joy that follows! These present a marvelous time to take stock of the plans and lists we are primarily following. Is Our Lord their Author? Do I consult Him? Do I recognize His desires for me? Do I invite the input of His Will and Way? It is easy to get sidetracked and formulate plans that sweep us to destinations not expected or desired.
Seven Sisters can point to a day of the week each calendar week and submit to a call that has been divinely given. What about the living out of the Hour? Do we enter with our own list of how our prayerful conversation will flow in that Hour? Do we allow room through pause and silence to learn if Our Lord has insights and guidance that may be different than what we “planned”. A French priest (early 18th century), Fr Jean Pierre de Caussade, advised the Visitation nuns, whom he directed, that they (we) have a duty of the present moment regardless of not understanding or desiring it. He assured that this did not mean one never plans (or make lists) or that one floats like a leaf (false submission), but that we act prudently in each moment with the confidence that God is our ever-present help and has a plan. De Caussade advised that “to submit to God is loving Him and if you love God, you cannot go wrong.” Asking for His help in prayer is always fruitful. “What God arranges for us to experience at each moment is the best and holiest thing that could happen to us. … Without Him everything is nothing, and with Him nothing is everything. We may meditate, indulge in contemplation, pray aloud, practice interior silence… and though they may all be valuable, there is nothing better for us than to do what God wants at any particular moment.” Like St John then we can say at any moment, “It is the Lord!” and like St Peter we can respond to “spring into the sea” (Jn 21:17).
Our reading of good books, taking on new and varied devotions, our daily activities – all have benefit when in the Will of God, but de Caussade warns that if they are taken up outside of His Will, they can actually harm us because they indeed place us outside of His Will. Fr de Caussade assures that a sense of inner peace can be our guide, and encourages asking when there are doubts. He reminds that Jesus is near and not going anywhere. He is IN the present moment and why each moment then can rightly be considered a “sacrament” because Christ lives there. Staying keen and connected to God’s guidance – an abandonment to His providence in each moment – in our prayer times and life in general – can do no less than unite us to God more fully.
De Caussade speaks of the Holy Spirit writing the book of our life – a biography every day – in a language that we will only understand in heaven. “Every letter has a special meaning.” The moving relief pictured here by Robbia could hearken to that day when the angels will sing from that book which houses the hoped lists of God for each of our lives and how we responded to them in love. And nothing would be appropriate at that moment except singing – and more singing. For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done (Matt 16:27). Oh, sisters, let us invite the Lord to review our every list – of things we desire, of the way we pray, of the life we live. Let us ask Him to perfect them. Surely, He deeply longs to rejoice over you with singing (Zeph 3:17).
United in prayer, fasting and mission…that our prayers may find the heart of every bishop and priest. “Today the Lord helped me be totally united with the souls of His priests in my first official Pro Pace Mass. To lift them up at the Consecration was humbling, for they are priests after all! Tears by the time we got to “Save us, Savior of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection, YOU HAVE SET US FREE.” It seemed He was listening and bringing those home He deemed ready. Gifts and graces will be multiplied for these servant souls still waiting for our prayers “pro pace.” (Carmen, Kansas)
“I was asked by a lovely friend to be an anchoress. I’m 1 year new to weekly adoration – it’s an amazing spiritual journey.” (Laura, Colorado)
“I joined a Seven Sister group praying for a retired priest. I then felt a call to organize a group for an itinerant priest in Australia with an international following. I thought it would be difficult to find women from other countries with the same love for priests and prayer, but have found 6 other women, one being his mother, and now have a very strong group.”(Louise, Massachusetts and Australia)
“My conversion came through the witness of a very holy and happy priest when I was 17. Since then, I have had a deep love and respect for the priesthood. I came across Seven Sisters and began praying for an opportunity from the Lord to join or start a group. I moved to a different state and no group existed at my parish. It was His invitation to start one! He took care of the rest!” (Emily, Ohio)
“I helped start several Seven Sister groups last year. Such a tremendous gift for both the priests and intercessors. It has fostered friendships and spiritual growth. It’s not uncommon for family members of a Seven Sister to start going to adoration. What a beautiful apostolate.” (Kathleen, Colorado)
“This apostolate is going to change the world one parish at a time. It was presented to me in such a holy, humble manner. I wanted for our parish what they have happening in theirs. Our parish priest is now covered under this powerful apostolate. We also have two retired priest who graciously help to celebrate Mass. We are starting a group for each. Exciting times are happening!! (Jane, Iowa)
“I was born and raised in the Philippines. My beloved husband passed away in February 2020. After his passing, I started attending daily Mass. It helped my grieving. I have always been moved by the power of prayer. This led me to the Seven Sisters Apostolate, whose mission of intercession through focused, committed prayer deeply resonated with me.” (Grace, New Jersey)

Perhaps a novena of Holy Hours or the offering of holy Mass(es) for the priest. You will know. Some groups have/are offering Holy Hours for an entire year for their beloved deceased priest. Groups may be started following the death of a priest that did not have a group prior. This is commendable and welcomed. Please register these special groups through the Web site.

In November nature seems to turn down the lights and tuck its edges in to get ready for that long winter’s nap assuredly ahead. Embracing the rich liturgical days in November we Catholics have too much on our minds and hearts to even think of sleep. We burst into the month through the open door to All Saints Day, then the very next day and through the rest of the month, prayerfully remember in earnest hope all who have gone to their eternal rest. Our liturgies then pointedly reflect on the Last Things to help us prepare for our own eternity. Mother Church finally takes us all the way to the peace and joy of celebrating Christ is King (this year, Nov 24). Thy Kingdom come; Thy Will be done…
St Teresa of Calcutta reminds, “Today if we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other – that man, that woman, that child is my brother or my sister.” This all-encompassing family is the priority of Christ. The Church reminds that our brothers and sisters reside in the Church Triumphant (heaven), Church Militant (earth) and Church Suffering (Purgatory). Seven Sisters and Fasting Brothers look to our heavenly family as witnesses of love and our ever-ready help. Our weekly sacrifices of prayers and fasting impact our priestly brothers on earth. In this month dedicated to the holy souls of purgatory, how fitting that the Apostolate will express remembrance and love for those in purgatory through intentional prayer for them. Aligning our efforts with the dogma of the Church that purgatory exists, 1 November 2024 marks the launch ofPro Pace (Latin, for peace), a fruit of the Apostolate, dedicated to offering prayers and sacrifices for the release of the souls of priests from Purgatory. Groups of (at least) seven women, including an Anchoress, will band together. Each chooses one distinct day of the week. The commitment for each will be to attend holy Mass on that chosen day every week and offer her personal intention and personal Communion for the souls of priests in Purgatory. That day, in addition, each intercessor offers the traditional Eternal Restprayer and one Hail Mary. When the Anchoress of the group registers, a handout with these two prayers and optional additional prayers will be issued. Pro Pace is perfectly fitting to our mission of letting no shepherd be left behind. Anchoresses of Seven Sisters groups can also be an Anchoress of a Pro Pace group.
Pro Pace bears the formidable assistance of a tri-patronage: (1) St Nicholas of Tolentino (Italy, 1245-1305, FD: Sept 10) Augustinian priest, mystic, wonder-worker, incorrupt. His prayer for the souls in Purgatory was the striking characteristic of his spirituality. Named patron saint of the souls in purgatory. 2) St Catherine of Genoa (Italy, 1447-1510, FD:Sept 15) Mystic, admirable work among poor and sick, writer, spiritual advisor, incorrupt. In her treatise on purgatory, she penned, “I believe no happiness can be found worthy to be compared with that of a soul in Purgatory except that of the saints in Paradise; and day by day this happiness grows as God flows into these souls, more and more as the hindrance to His entrance is consumed. Sin’s rust is the hindrance, and the fire burns the rust away so that more and more the soul opens itself up to the divine inflowing.” 3) St Gertrude the Great (Germany, 1256-1301, FD: Nov 16) Benedictine nun, mystic, prolific writer. Prayer from Our Lord to St Gertrude:Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
Pro Pace members will truly cherish growing friendships with these tri-patrons as they unfold the many facets of Purgatory, highlight the indispensable nature of our sacrifices for the holy souls and strengthen our faith, hope and love with their undeniable witnesses. Of interest (referenced in the November 2023 Communique) is the superb film Purgatory: The Forgotten Church (written and directed by Fr John Clote) The book, Purgatory Explained by the Lives and Legends of the Saints (Fr F.X. Schouppe), would be a perfect November read!
In this detail of Carracci’s heart-moving painting, we can readily be made aware of the intimacy between the states of the Church. Prayerful sacrifices of the Church Militant invoke an angelic conduit between the Church Suffering and the Church Triumphant who stretch out in welcome. The graceful foot of Our Lady charged to crush the head of satan stands central and sure in this welcoming committee. As these souls are released from Purgatory into the fullness of peace in heaven’s embrace, what an army of celestial intercessors we will add to our numbers! Truly – we belong to each other – brothers and sisters in Christ! Through our sacrifices and love for one another we find authentic and lasting peace – for Peace, we know, as Love, we know, is a Person! Let us allow Him to have the last word here: “My love urges Me to release the poor souls. If a beneficent king leaves his guilty friend in prison for justice’s sake, he awaits with longing for one of his nobles to plead for the prisoner and to offer something for his release. Then the king joyfully sets him free. Similarly, I accept with highest pleasure what is offered to Me for the poor souls, for I long inexpressibly to have near Me those for whom I paid so great a price.” (Our Lord to St Gertrude)

“Heartbroken upon recently learning about a priest that left the priesthood, I realized how much our shepherds need our prayers. I feel called to action.” (Nicole, Wisconsin)
“One day a parishioner shared with my friend and I how she prayed for our priest’s protection and blessing every time he processed past her after a Mass. What a beautiful idea! We began to pray this way too. Soon after, my friend shared this with the priest. He then shared the information about the Seven Sisters Apostolate with us. Here we are!” (Cynthia, Washington, DC)
“Christ in the Eucharist is the source, strength and joy of my life. When I heard about this beautiful apostolate, I could not stop thinking about it. A great group of women and I want to say yes to the call the Lord has placed in our hearts to pray and help build up His Church.” (Dennisse, Washington)
“I have found that praying for our pastor has led me to love our pastor. When our pastor changed, I found it difficult to give my prayer time for the new priest. But as I prayed each week, my heart grew more tender, and I found that I desired to not only pray for him, but to take care of him in times of need. When he was sick with COVID (twice), my husband and I made sure he had what he needed to be able to stay secure in the rectory to recuperate. Praying for someone at such an intense level, opens one’s heart to go above and beyond what one would normally do.” (Carolyn, Minnesota)
“I got to know this Apostolate through an EWTN program. I reached out to a sister in Christ to explain the Apostolate to join. She shared she was discerning Bible passages she read a night before: “With all your soul fear God and revere his priests. With all your strength love your Maker and do not neglect his ministers” (Sirach 7;29-30).She immediately realized this was God’s call for her to join. The mystery of God as we all know. God used her to confirm His will to me as well.” (Sophia, Texas)
“When you hear about this Apostolate three times, you listen to the Holy Spirit! I’m happy to have found six sisters to join me. Our priest will be giving us the blessing next week!” (Lucia, Pennsylvania)
