This specially tailored pilgrimage offers the Seven Sisters a spiritual itinerary which connects us with some of the great priest and bishop saints of the Church. We remember that “the priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus” and will see how that love was witnessed by a number of holy priest saints.
We start with the great Bishop of Milan, Saint Ambrose, and the place where he baptized Saint Augustine. We celebrate Mass at the tomb of Saint Charles Borromeo, the saintly bishop who helped implement the Council of Trent’s reforms on the seminary and the clergy.
We move on to Turin and the shrine of Saint John Bosco who was blessed with saintly collaborators whose tombs are next to his: Saint Dominic Savio and Saint Mary Mazzarello. Don Bosco was blessed with the example of his mentor Saint Joseph Cafasso and one of the priestly saints of charity listed by Pope Benedict XVI: Saint Joseph Cottolengo. We will also pray at the tomb of recently canonized Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati and see where the Shroud of Turin is kept (not on display).
After visiting one of the seven shrines of the “Sword of Saint Michael,” we will move into eastern France and pray at the Marian shrine of Our Lady of Laus, “Refuge of Sinners.” In the 17th century the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared here and promised many graces for the conversion of sinners. We will celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart in this hidden and peaceful shrine.
We then come to the ancient Christian center of Lyon where we will venerate Saint Irenaeus and the other Roman martyrs. We will also pray at the Marian shrine of Fourviere and the shrine of Blessed Pauline Jaricot, foundress of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith. We will spend Sunday in the nearby town of Ars at the shrine of Saint John Vianney, patron of priests.
Heading north, we then visit the shrine of the Sacred Heart with the tombs of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque and her priest advisor Saint Claude de la Colombiere. We will also pray at the shrine of the Carmelite mystic Saint Elisabeth of the Trinity before arriving at the tomb of the great Doctor of the Church, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. We will take the opportunity to venerate English saints such as Saint Edmund and Saint Thomas Becket who spent time in this region of France and are still venerated there.
Join us in the month of the Sacred Heart for an extraordinary pilgrimage among the saints!
