Appreciated and Loved Quilt Project

Hearts of prayer + Hands of service

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

… It is the Lord Christ you are serving. – Colossians 3:23, 24b

Mission: To enfold individual retired priests in the mantle of Holy Hours of prayer through the Seven Sisters Apostolate, while at the same time blessing each with a unique hand-fashioned lap quilt as a tangible reminder.

Getting Started:  The Appreciated and Loved Quilt Project began in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota wherein retired priests receive a handmade quilt after a Seven Sisters prayer group is formed.  If you, or someone you know, are interested in providing quilts for the retired priests in your Diocese, please contact Deb Thielen, Coordinator of the Apostolate Appreciated and Loved Quilt Project at [email protected].

More information can be found in in our flyer. However, please note that this flyer was written for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.  Each Diocese joining our efforts in the Quilt Project will have their own coordinator.  To date, the Dioceses participating in the Quilt Project are:

Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, MN,  Coordinator: Deb Thielen, [email protected]
Diocese of Duluth, MN, Coordinator: Lisa Neururer, [email protected]
Archdiocese of Seattle, WA, Coordinator: Jolene Wasche, [email protected]
Diocese of Bismarck, ND, Coordinator: Bev Cushing, [email protected]

Please consider becoming a Coordinator in your Diocese and joining us in gifting all our retired priests with Seven Sisters prayer groups and a quilt.

The process:  Making quilts can be done individually or as a group, meeting together and/or dividing tasks appropriate to individual skills and expertise (e.g. cutting, piecing, hand stitching, embroidering, machine quilting).  Integral to the work is prayer – before, during and upon completion of making the quilt.  If the priest does not have an active Seven Sisters prayer group at the start of making his quilt, this is a fundamental goal and can be actively prayed for during the working process of quilting.  After a Seven Sisters prayer group is formed, the Anchoress will then present the quilt to the retired priest.

While there is no known patron of Quilters, St. Veronica is patron of Seamstresses and can be called upon for help!  May the compassion and love of St. Veronica towards Jesus during his Passion be emulated by all those sewing quilts and praying for our retired priests.  JOY and Eternal benefits!
